The unions go after Gov. Cuomo

E.J. McMahon, the Manhattan Institute’s tireless crusader for a better New York, today tried to puncture the praise of the pension reform passed last week in an op-ed in Newsday headlined “Don’t believe Cuomo’s pension hype.”  His point is that the new pension tier for new state and city workers is incremental reform, not the dramatic overhaul needed.

Trying to make New York more like the rest of the country in terms of taxes, spending and the reach of government is a noble goal. The reality is that barring an economic crisis, steps toward that ideal will indeed be incremental.
